How to drive a nail through wood

It is essential to pick the right size and style of hammer before you can drive a nail in wood. The most common types of hammers are claw hammers, sledgehammers, mallets, ball peen hammers, and hatchets. Each type of hammer has its pros and cons. A claw hammer is best for hitting nails or hard objects. However, it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly where the blow will land. The sledgehammer works well for large areas, but is too heavy for smaller tasks.

After selecting the right hammer, you will need to place your hand flat against one side of the head. The handle should rest comfortably in your hands. Grab the handle tightly, but do not squeeze too hard. You should hold the hammer straight-up, with your wrist still relaxed. Swing the hammer back towards the ground, with your aim at the middle of the nail. You should feel the impact of your hammer hitting the nail. Practice swinging your hammer on a block of wooden until you feel comfortable.

You can now drive the nail by holding the hammer to your body. The nail should be perpendicular to wood's surface. Keep your eyes on the tip. Swing the hammer forward, and then move the hammerhead. Keep doing this until you are comfortable with the swing. Try adding power to your swings when you've mastered the technique. You can hold the hammer over your shoulder and forcefully bring it down. You will be able to use more energy and put your best foot forward.

Once you've nailed the first hole, remove the hammer from the nail. Use a pry bar or screwdriver to pull out the rest of the nails. Keep the nails heads in line with the surface of the board to prevent splitting the wood.
