How To

How to make wooden joints

This tutorial will show you how to join two pieces of wood together. We will use the "pockethole joint," which means that we drill holes in the wooden pieces and then glue them together. This works well if the wood is straight and smooth. You might consider dowel joinery if your wood isn’t straight or flat. These are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. To start, measure and mark where you want to put the pocket hole joint. With a handheld drill machine or jig saw, drill 3/4-inch deep holes in the ends of each piece.
  2. Sand Smooth. Sanding the wood's edges will help ensure that the joint won't split later.
  3. Glue both sides together. Apply glue to both ends of the wood. Let it sit for about 5 minutes before clamping the pieces together.
  4. Clamp the Pieces Together. After the glue has dried properly, clamp the pieces together to make sure they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. Trim any excess wood surrounding the joint once the glue has dried completely.

Allow enough space between pieces so you can turn them inside out.
